THE HOME AND THE GIRLS

PROHIJAR shelters Colombian girls of limited resources between the ages of 2 and 18 years old who, although having a family, have had to separate from them because they do not offer adequate conditions for their development. In PROHIJAR the girls continue their personal, intellectual, and emotional growing process that goes from developing daily tasks, such as school homework, or collaborating with house keeping, to acquiring empowering tools, self-confidence, good habits, and building their life projects, always fomenting contact with their families or assistants.

The girls constantly work on values, sicological support, social work, and participate in formative activities, artistic expression, relaxing time, and entertainment. This goes along with the performance of activities appropriate to the developing stage in which each girl is. While we incentivate sicological development or the discovery of basic elements of their environment in the younger ones, we try to closely go along with the socialization process and transition to adult life of the older ones.

ATTENTION MODEL

PROHIJARworks really hard in providing the best life conditions to the girls it protects.

The protection home is disposed to comfortably shelter 20 girls, allowing them to live in a home environment. It has comfortable bedrooms, ample bathrooms, living room, dinning room, laundry area, two offices, a ludoteque, study room with library, and green zones with playground. Also, there is a used clothing store (La Ropería) as part of the formation and self-support project of the girls.

The girls' live in the house under trained personnel care, attend classes daily at the area schools, and do different formative activities in their spare time. Additionally, they receive the support of a group of professionals in the areas of psychology, social work, medicine, odontology, learning center among others, which closely accompanies physical and emotional development of the girls.

Parallely to the work with girls, PROHIJAR works with their families to try to solve the problems which originate the separation of the girls and their attendance to PROHIJAR, trying to stabilize their familiar situation and that reintegration is reached in maximum 2 years.
